How would you describe a “successful” parish?  Probably we’d use in here those same measurements we’re used to using out there.

A successful fete, successful study groups, successful dinner dance.  Numbers, crowds. quantity!

Not so Jesus.  Surrounded by a great crowd, his popularity at its peak, he issues his most uncompromising challenge!  How much does it cost to follow Jesus?  Everything!  In fact, sometimes, everyone!  And, of course, one’s very self.

So, when the Church attendance is up, beware of elation.  When Church attendance is down, beware of depression.  The question is always: Why?  If one leaves the Church because of a cranky priest, an unfaithful religious, an inflexible or arbitrary handling of a personal or parish issue, that is sad.  But if a person leaves because the Church has stolen Christ’s truth without comprise, that kind of rejection is OK—in fact, it is expected.

What if we were to defend, to family and friends, the Church’s stand on abortion, sociality, human rights, nuclear war?  Can we give Jesus all?  Can we be his disciples?

Week 8, Term Three

BER Update
Our school office and reception area has moved to the Learning Support rooms for the start of our BER project.  The Uniform Shop is located next to the reception desk.  Gavin Constructions will commence work on the 6th September.  At our induction meeting last week they were very ready to work collaboratively with us to ensure that the children’s safety is paramount.  With this in mind school entry points will change.  We now ask that parents either use the gate next to the tuckshop\multipurpose court, or the gate at the end of the oval next to the San Damiano Hall at Mt Alvernia.  We thank you for your support and will keep you informed of the progress.

P&F Meeting
Please come to our next P&F Meeting on Monday 13th September at 7:30 pm in room 27 next to the Port.

Father’s Day
Sincere best wishes to all Dads for Sunday.

Long Service Leave
I look forward to returning to St Anthony’s re-energized and refreshed after my leave.

Best wishes
Vyv Menegon (Principal)
